You all know it. The salsa-inspired and infectious Havana, featuring Young Thug, is without a doubt one of the biggest hits the past decade. In fact, in September 2018 it became Spotify’s most-streamed song ever by a female artist. It topped the charts all over the world, everywhere from Argentina, Mexico and USA to France, Slovenia and Canada. This year’s smash Señorita, with Shawn Mendes, has been no less successful. It became Camila Cabello’s second number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and has broken multiple streaming records. So, you all know that one too.
Camila Cabello, who actually was born in Havana, moved to Miami at the age of five. Her music career took off as a member of Fifth Harmony. Between 2013 and 2016, when Cabello quit to become a solo artist, the group had several international hits, among them Worth It and Work From Home. Her debut solo album, Camila in 2018, was a commercial triumph and received great reviews. The Guardian wrote: ”The singer who left Fifth Harmony has, against the odds, really come up with the goods – from affecting piano ballads to breezy reggaeton.” The follow-up, Romance, was just released.
